Description
Released in 2011, it was a version of the 1.6 Gamma GDi with twin-scroll turbochargers, air-guided intercoolers, direct fuel injection and twin CVVTs. It develops 204 PS (150 kW; 201 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 27 kg m (265 N m; 195 lbf ft) of torque at 1,500–4,500 rpm. The detuned version makes 177 PS (130 kW; 175 hp) at 5,500 rpm.
The engine was unveiled at the 11th Hyundai-Kia International Powertrain Conference.
The second generation Veloster Turbo features engine improvements including a new pressurized cooling system, higher 10:1 compression ratio, electronically actuated wastegate and a new ECU (CPEGD2.20.3).
An improved version with continuously variable valve duration (CVVD) was launched in 2019 as the Smartstream G1.6T (G4FP) engine.
