Description

Bore x stroke 85 mm x 88 mm (3.35 in x 3.46 in), produced in SOHC and DOHC. Both versions are available in naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms. For front-wheel-drive applications, the Turbo Sirius name was changed to “Cyclone Dash.” Claimed output was later reduced to 170 PS (125 kW; 168 bhp) when fitted to a fifth-generation Galant 200 PS (147 kW; 197 bhp) JIS gross – for a turbocharged and intercooled ‘Sirius Dash 3×2 valve’ engine. Breathing can be switched between two or three valves per cylinder, combining high-end power with low-end drivability and economical operation. It is an improved version of Mitsubishi’s MCA-Jet technology, which uses a secondary intake valve to inject air into the engine for more effective emissions control. Available in turbocharged or naturally aspirated form. It appeared in a variety of models, including the 1988-92 Mitsubishi Galant VR-4, the 1990-1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution I-IX for the US market. Mitsubishi’s variable valve timing system MIVEC is also used.
