Porsche’s eight-cylinder 928 S made its debut at the 1979 IAA Motor Show. Its engine bore was two millimetres larger, meaning an engine displacement of 4.7 litres. Its compression ratio was increased to 10.0:1, which required the use of super petrol. Nevertheless, the power unit performed well and power was increased to 221 kW (300 hp). This enabled the 928 S to break the 250 km/h speed barrier. Later, the compression ratio was increased again and a switch to electronic fuel injection was made, which increased power again to 228 kW (310 hp).
