ENGINE Volkswagen EA888 CUG2.0TIII
Description
The EA888 engine has been developed to the 3B stage. The main features and improvements of EA888 in each development stage are as follows: At present, the EA888 engine in the new models of Volkswagen and Audi has two displacements of 1.8T and 2.0T, and the technical parameters are shown in the table below. The structural features of the EA8882.0T engine are introduced: a cylinder head with valve lift switching function, variable valve lift technology (AVS) and a new thermal energy management system. The exhaust manifold is integrated in the cylinder head with valve lift switching function, so that the exhaust gas recirculation cooler is carried out in the cylinder head. The intake and exhaust camshafts have a variable valve timing function, and the exhaust camshafts also have a valve lift switching function. The variable valve lift technology (AVS) realizes the optimal control of the gas exchange of each cylinder mainly through the switching of the valve lift of the electronic valve on the exhaust camshaft and the variable timing of the intake and exhaust camshafts. Benefits include: optimized gas exchange; prevention of exhaust backflow into the previous 180 exhaust hood; earlier intake valve opening for better charging; improved responsiveness by reducing high-pressure residual gases in the combustion chamber; higher torque at lower revs and higher boost pressure. The EA888 engine has also created a new thermal energy management system, which can control the coolant flow according to the target, and realize the intelligent cold start and warm-up program. In addition, starting from the third generation, the EA888 engine has introduced dual fuel injection technology, including high-pressure direct injection (FSI) and multi-point injection (MPI) in the intake manifold. In short, the EA888 engine is constantly improving and innovating, improving the performance and efficiency of the engine, and making a huge contribution to the development of the automotive industry.
Due to the low-power EA888Gen3B adopting the Miller cycle, the compression ratio is as high as 11.7, while the high-power EA888Gen3 with the traditional Miller cycle has a compression ratio of only 9.8.
The high-power EA888Gen3 valve variable lift system AVS is on the exhaust side, mainly to improve low-speed performance and turbocharger dynamic response. The valve variable lift system AVS of the low-power EA888Gen3B is on the intake side, mainly to achieve the low cam lift requirement of the Miller cycle and reduce the maximum power loss caused by the Miller cycle.
