Description

The Mu V6 (G6EA), based on the Delta series and incorporating some innovations from the Lambda series developed in parallel, was released in 2004. This includes CVVT, conversion of mechanical bucket lifters, and nearly identical cylinder heads. The Mu is a 60-degree six-cylinder engine with an all-aluminum block and head. It features DOHC with 4 valves per cylinder, variable intake system (VIS), variable length intake runners (VLM) and multiport fuel injection (MPi). The engine is manufactured by Hyundai in Asan, South Korea.

Compared to the predecessor Delta, the compression ratio has been slightly increased to 10.4, resulting in a fuel saving of around 3% (compression ratio). In addition, the cylinder head was revised to add a CVVT called camshaft adjustment on the intake side, enabling it to produce 188 PS (138 kW; 185 hp) and 25.2 kg m (247 N m; 182 lb m) ft) of torque at 4,000 ft. Mu utilizes a timing belt to drive the exhaust cams on each set of the engine, and the intake cam sprockets are driven by a chain. The CVVT mechanism in the Mu varies the intake cam timing relative to the fixed exhaust cam timing. This does not change valve lift or duration.

In 2008, the CVVT control system was updated with the addition of exhaust cams (dual CVVT), enabling it to develop at 6,000 rpm and 25.4 kg m (249 N m; 184 lb ft) of torque at 4,500 rpm , the Kia Cadenza used this variant from 2010 to 2013 with unreleased changes, producing 200 hp (147 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 25.4 kg m (249 N m; 184 lb) ; 197 hp) ⋅ft) of torque at 4,500 rpm.

LPG version (code L6EA) built exclusively for the Korean market with a compression ratio of 10.0 and 164 PS (121 kW; 162 hp) at 5,200 rpm and 25 kg m (245 N m; 181 lb) ⋅ft) 4,000 rpm time torque.
